The following are services we offer. Please fill out a request by clicking on the title or a link on the left selection bar:
If you don't empty your horses' troughs more than once every 7 days, then we have a problem. Horse troughs are a great place for mosquitos to breed, and since horses and humans are very susceptible to West Nile Virus, we have started a Horse Trough Crew. This Crew provides a service to horse owners by treating horse troughs with a larvicide called Altosid. These briquettes placed into the troughs are extremely safe to everything except mosquito and black fly larvae. Each briquette can last up to 150 days, and will control mosquitos during that time. More information on the product Altosid can be found on our "Pesticides we use" page. You can also find additional information at www.altosid.com. Ornamental Ponds (also known as Backyard Ponds) are another great place for mosquitos to breed. These can assist the spread of these pesty insects as well as the diseases they carry. A solution we provide to help those in our area with backyard ponds is a mosquito fish (Gambusia). These mosquito fish can reach close to the edges and eat the mosquito larvae before they can become pests. Another option that is available is the larvicide Altosid. Much like it says above under "Horse Troughs," it is extremely safe to everything except mosquito and black fly larvae. For more Information click on the "Ponds" link under our What you can do page. If you have found standing water, please fill out our "Standing Water" request. We will send one of our trained Vector Technicians to inspect and treat if necessary. Many areas of standing water throughout the area are currently mapped and checked on a weekly basis. Your request will be compared to our database, and immediately checked and added if not in our current system. Please also be aware that bird baths, leaf-clogged gutters, old tires or cans, potted plants, and other small or large water collecting containers around your own house can cause a mass population of mosquitos.
