Our mosquito technicians are certified by the State of Utah Department of Agriculture and Food in pesticide usage, mosquito and vector identification. Along with inspecting wetlands for mosquitoes, we will also be trying to locate new mosquito breeding sources and treat any potential mosquito sources by means of physical, biological and chemical means. Mosquito breeding sites, which include stagnate water found in natural occurring wetlands along with man-made sources, will be looked at by the District for mosquito production. These sites will be routinely checked, monitored and treated by our technicians. CO2 Traps and other means will be used to gather information on the number and species of adult mosquitoes in a given area. We are using two sentinel chicken flocks placed in the District from May thru October to monitor disease activity such as Western Equine, West Nile Virus and St. Louis Encephalitis. The objective of our program is to control or eliminate existing mosquito breeding sources in order to protect public health and comfort.
