Are you breeding Mosquitoes in your yard?

What do Mosquito Larvae Look like?

Mosquito Larvae hang from the top of the water downward.  The siphon (air tube) allows them to breathe air.  If disturbed they will swim downward in a "twitching" motion and later resurface.

Common Breeding Sites

Bird baths: Because water left standing for more than a week can pose a threat, bird baths should be washed clean once every 7 days during mosquito season.

-Tires and other water collecting items can produce hundreds of mosquitoes!

Standing Water: Keep spare tires and all other items that can collect water stored in covered areas of your land.  A summer's rain can cause mosquitoes to lay eggs in areas where water collects.  Water should be emptied from these containers weekly.

-Please see our Ponds section.

Ponds: If you have a pond in your yard, you can use an adequately sized fountain feature to ensure the water is not standing still.  Mosquito fish (Gambusia affinis) or a growth hormone called Altosid can be used.  Please see our Ponds section for greater details about ponds, also check out our Offered Services.

Gutters: Often times homes or garages that sit in shaded areas can accumulate leaves and other debris in the gutters. Keeping debris out of the gutters is a very good form of mosquito control.

Grass: Keep your lawn mowed and bushes trimmed throughout the mosquito season. Although mosquitoes hatch from water, they tend to rest in the grass and shrubbery which provides a moist resting site until feeding time.
